Learn about the Civil War on the Indian River on Saturday near Jupiter


Richard Procyk talks about history at Riverbend Park/ Loxahatchee River Battlefield Park

History in the Park on Saturday December 10 at 10 a.m. at Riverbend Park/ Loxahatchee River Battlefield Park will feature Josh Liller.

His topic will be “Civil War on the Indian River.”

The event, sponsored by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department and volunteers from the Loxahatchee Battlefield Preservationists, is free and open to the public

Liller has been the Historian and Collections Manager at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum since 2014.

His talk will include blockade ships that patrolled offshore, blockade runners that used the inlets, and the lighthouses.

A battlefield tour will be conducted after the presentation.

Riverbend Park/ Loxahatchee River Battlefield Park is located at 9060 Indiantown Road, one mile west of the turnpike and I-95.

Free fire truck rides and a visit from Santa in Tequesta on Saturday

Santa will be stopping by the Tequesta Fire Rescue Station building, 357 Tequesta Drive, Saturday morning, December 10.

Not only that, but visitors can have a special holiday breakfast, take a station tour, enjoy a fire-truck ride for kids, watch equipment demonstrations and more at the event hosted by the Tequesta Firefighters and Police.

Visitors should bring a small gift for the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots program.

The event is free and open to the public between 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
