Dan Rooney, Pittsburgh Steelers chairman, had ties to Jupiter

Rooney’s Public House in Jupiter’s Abacoa closed in 2014. The restaurant opened in 2000.

Dan Rooney, the powerful and popular Pittsburgh Steelers chairman whose relatives were owners of the former Rooney’s Public House restaurant in Jupiter’s Abacoa, died Thursday.

Dan Rooney was 84.

Declining business in 2014 caused the closing of Rooney’s Public House in Abacoa, a popular restaurant in the development that is the home for Roger Dean Stadium.

U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney (R-Okeechobee) is Dan Rooney’s grandson.

Former state representative Pat Rooney Jr., a Republican who represented northern Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast, is also Dan Rooney’s grandson.
