Poppy, a sub-adult loggerhead sea turtle, has been healed and is scheduled to be released Tuesday, March 7 at about 11 a.m. back home to the Atlantic Ocean.
The release will from the beach at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center, 14200 U.S. 1 in Juno Beach.
The event is free and open to the public.
Poppy was found floating near Hutchinson Island last October covered in barnacles and leeches. Initial blood work showed anemia, hypoglycemia and overall poor health due to starvation.
Poppy was placed in freshwater for two days to remove the barnacles and leeches, and was administered fluids, nutrition, antibiotics and vitamins.
Poppy will be prepared for release from LMC starting at 10:30 a.m. LMC officials will talk to visitors about Poppy’s history before the release.
