The first day of the PGA Tour tournament at PGA National Resort & Spa Thursday was Military Appreciation Day. At the Patriots Outpost where free lunch and snacks are provided, a Juno Beach veteran during a special presentation described how his service dog helped him and his family through a difficult transition back to civilian life.

Socializing the dog forces veterans to re-acclimate to going to public places such as Target and dog parks, the veteran said. The dog is so well trained, it will even pick up his credit card and return it to him.

The salute to the military doesn’t end Thursday. In partnership with United Technologies, active duty military members, reservists, retirees and their dependents can get free tickets Thursday through Sunday of tournament week.

Messages from the Tribute Wall at the Patriot Outpost at the 17th hole at the Honda Classic will be sent to military members in Florida and abroad.
