Now that pickleball has really caught on, you might find the competition is fiercer than you thought.
Palm Beach Gardens will have its second annual Battle for the Brick Pickleball Championships March 3 and 4 at Lilac Park, 4175 Lilac St. The cost is $30 per player, and players should register by Feb. 22. Winning players will receive an engraved brick.
Exact check-in and play times will be announced one week before the championships, according to a post on the city’s recreation Facebook page.
Players can participate in men’s doubles, women’s double or mixed doubles. They should register at pbgrec.com, in person at the Burns Road Recreation Center at 4404 Burns Road or by mail.
For the unfamiliar, pickleball is somewhat of a combination of ping pong, tennis and badminton. It’s played on a badminton-sized court. Beginner pickleball lessons are offered.
Palm Beach Gardens in 2015 built a new, six-court pickleball complex at the underutilized roller hockey rink to complement the indoor courts at the Burns Road Recreation Center. Visit pbgfl.com/712/pickleball for a full list of play times and fees.
