Tennis legend and 1979 Wimbledon finalist Roscoe Tanner will serve up a tennis camp at the Palm Beach Gardens Tennis Center later this month.
Tanner is partnering with colleagues Curly Davis and Amy Polizzi to present the adult doubles and serving camp the weekend of Feb. 17 to 19 at the Tennis Center, 5110 117th Court North. The tennis pros will “teach the finer points of tennis doubles strategy and tactics, along with the techniques that made Tanner the world’s fastest server,” according to a news release from the city.
The $320 fee includes a Friday night meet-and-greet party, two mornings of instruction, lunch on Saturday and Sunday and a parting gift, the news release states. To register, email Amy Polizzi at email@example.com.
Tanner is the 1977 Australian Open Champion and lost the 1979 Wimbledon final to Bjorn Borg. He is known for his 150+ mph serve.
He has had scrapes with the law during the past two decades over child support, writing bad checks and driving with a suspended license, according to reports. Tanner told the New York Times in 2012 that he knew he didn’t represent the sport the way he should have and was trying to turn his life around.
