Jupiter Lighthouse to be seen in a new light

The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse will be lit purple for four nights starting Thursday to mark October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

An event Thursday, Oct. 20 to mark the lighting is planned in the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse parking lot at 7 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

The lighthouse is lighted to mark to other causes during the year.

In April, the lighthouse is lighted blue to mark autism awareness. The lighthouse has been lighted pink to mark breast cancer awareness.

The lighthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. It was first lighted in 1860.
