The sight of the Juno Beach Pier with the sun setting over the ocean will take anyone’s breath away.
The Loggerhead Marinelife Center knows it’s a favorite for photographers, even those who simply shoot with an iPhone and upload to Instagram. The caretakers want you to submit your best picture to the Second Annual Juno Beach Pier Photo Contest to help them tell the pier’s story.
A storm in the 1980s destroyed the original pier. The new one was built in 1999 and is part of a program that teaches anglers about responsible fishing and how to respond to an accidental sea turtle hooking, according to the Loggerhead Marinelife Center.
iPhone photos are accepted as long as they showcase the pier in some way, according to the center. The center will upload all submissions to Facebook for an independent panel of judges to identify the winners. The most “liked” will be named the Facebook fan favorite.
The grand prize and additional winners will be named noon Aug. 20 at The Gardens Mall during Marinelife Day. The grand prize winner will have their photo featured as the Juno Beach Pier’s Facebook profile picture and win a Loggerhead Marinelife Center basket, including personalized sea turtle adoption, according to the center.
The contest began Aug. 6. The deadline for submitting a photo is Sunday. Contestants can send one high-resolution photo to Hannah Deadman, public relations & communications coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
