A North Palm Beach mom got creative to solve her daughter’s fashion dilemma: She started her own clothing line.

Elena Hartmanis Sher’s five-year-old daughter Samantha suffers from childhood obesity because her body is resistant to insulin. The condition causes her to gain weight and process sugars differently than other children.

Samantha’s height and weight went off the charts when she was just two years old. That can make it a challenge to find clothes that aren’t too long, requiring alterations.

Hartmanis Sher created the Sunflower Girlz clothing line, designed for larger waistlines, as a solution.

“Sunflower Girlz is a clothing line for moms, like myself, trying to navigate their way through life with an overweight child, or just a larger child,” Hartmanis Sher said in a news release. “I wanted to create clothes that grow with girls, and that are lightweight, flexible and breathable. I wanted the line to make these girls feel beautiful.”
