About 70 parishioners and friends of a Palm Beach Gardens church with a legacy of supporting the LGBTQ community started celebrating 35 years at PrideFest Sunday in Lake Worth.
The Metropolitan Community Church of the Palm Beaches’ support precedes Palm Beach County’s first PrideFest in 1992 by more than a decade, according to a news release. The church had a float in this year’s parade, and church members and friends surrounded it with rainbow flags.
“We are on a bold mission to transform hearts, lives and history,” Rev. Lea Brown, the church’s senior pastor, said in the news release.
The church has been on Northlake Boulevard in the city since 2000. The parade marked the first of a series of special events throughout the year. All the events are for the church’s 35th anniversary.
