Today marks five months since Tequesta teens Austin Stephanos and Perry Cohen went missing after leaving the Jupiter Inlet, leaving their loved ones with broken hearts.

The holidays are especially tough, but each boy’s parents are working tirelessly to ensure no other family experiences their grief. They’ve formed the Perry J. Cohen Foundation and AustinBlu Foundation, respectively.

Austin’s parents, Blu Stephanos and Carly Black, are promoting boating safety courses and discounts on boat registration for people who buy emergency locator beacons that allow rescuers to pinpoint someone’s exact location within about 20 minutes.

Emergency Position Indicating Radiobeacons tremendously improve the odds of survival, Blu Stephanos said.

“It’s not searching; it’s rescue. It’s a big difference,” he said.
